Review of Chapelfield Community Group
The key findings were that the participant’s number of friends had greatly increased and that although they enjoy the activities their main reason for attending the group was for the company and friendship. They valued the weekly get togethers and for many of them this was the only time they were able to get out, see people and engage in conversation and activities. Due to their mental and physical disabilities, this group of older people often find it difficult to access other local groups who tend to be more active i.e. frequently taking part in group outings or activities unsuitable for people in wheelchairs. This is very much a ‘hands-on’ group of people who and enjoy doing the arts and crafts and simple projects which they all can take part in despite their disabilities.
